Gut Wisdom

I'm slowly plodding through Marc David's The Slow Down Diet and one of the exercises was to quiet yourself with some deep breaths and then take an inventory of what foods work.  Not in term of what the nutrition label says - but in terms of how you feel thinking about the foods, eating the foods and after eating the foods.

Below is my list of what works for me.  One thing I found interesting - many of my favorite "treat" foods are not on here.  They couldn't pass the gut test!

  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries
  • Peanut butter
  • Sunflower seed butter
  • Fish
  • Chicken
  • Turkey
  • Beef - preferably lean
  • Pork tenderloin or other lean cuts
  • Eggs
  • Avocado
  • Brussel sprouts
  • Celery
  • Apples
  • Peas
  • Pecans
  • Almonds
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Roasted new potatoes (the little red ones)
  • Barley
  • Fine Chocolate
  • Greens - as in collards, kale, spinach
  • Asparagus
  • Nectarines
  • Cantaloupe
  • Good bread and butter
  • Wine
  • Exquisitely made desserts
  • Yogurt
  • Granola
  • Rolled Oats
  • Lentils
  • Blackberries
What foods work for you? Lift you up, raise your energy levels, satiate you, but don't drag you down?
